You thought you could get away that easily? Brace yourself for a Doo Dah bash! Our colorful community will rally on what was to be the day of the parade, Sunday, November 23rd for The Doo Dah Takeover! — a two-part celebration of music, mayhem, and merriment in Old Pasadena.
The day begins at Dog Haus Biergarten on Big Bang Theory Way with “Doo Dah’s Big Bang!” an alley-side cabaret of Doo Dah legends and curious newcomers. From 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the alley will come alive with:
- Live music from MA the Band and The Rock and Roll Preservation Society, plus performances and antics from the “unusual suspects” of Doo Dah lore - 11am
- Doo Dah Queen Tryouts & Crowning Ceremony - 12pm - 3pm
Following these festivities, the party continues just around the corner at The Old Towne Pub for the official 21+ After Party, running from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. This event will feature a musical line-up set to include:
- Ashton Slater’s Grateful Get-Down with their psychedelic spin on live jams… 3pm
- MORE to be Announced!
We need folks with royal pizzazz to meet us at DogHaus 11/23 at 11am for our 2025 Queen Tryouts. Why should not having a parade preclude us from having a monarch to guide us? We need nonsensical leadership for nonsensical times, now more than ever. Our first ever Queen of the DooDah Takeover— the supreme purveyor of maintaining the DooDah spirit in this, our paradeless year.
We take comers from all walks of life for DooDah Queen Tryouts. Our queen role is not exclusive to gender, sexuality, race, class, shape, or even species. Yes, we have had lizards, birds, dogs, and critters of all kinds try out for the role of Queen!
Be prepared to show our panel of judges, former DooDah royals all, why you deserve to wear the crown this year. Dress to fit the part and be ready to put on a show. We need a regal figurehead who can model the DooDah spirit, not in single file down a parade route, but in the intimate quarters of the Old Pasadena party scene! Whether it’s song, dance, speech, juggling, sword-swallowing, plate-spinning, fire breathing, glass blowing, mind reading, genuine magic, or turning invisible, we are looking for someone who is the life of the party.

The Other Parade
Known as the twisted sister of the conventional Rose Parade, the Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade began as a grassroots event in 1978 and over the past decades has gained national attention for its eccentric and, often, irreverent satire. The parade which has spawned numerous off-beat replicants across the country was even highlighted in the Wall Street Journal in 2015. It was also named “America’s Best Parade” by Reader’s Digest, and was featured in the book 50 Places You Must Visit Before You Die.
